Parkersburg, WV – Ritchie Regional Health Center (RRHC) and Jefferson Elementary Center (JEC) announced a new partnership to provide comprehensive health services to students, families, and staff. This collaboration, facilitated by the Chamber of Commerce of the Mid-Ohio Valley's Partner-In-Education Program, will make it easier for the school community to access vital healthcare resources.

"Ritchie Regional Health Center has been serving Jefferson Elementary School and the Parkersburg community since 2006 with a School-Based Health Center located on the Jefferson Elementary Campus. We are excited about this opportunity to strengthen our partnership with the students and staff. Our goal is to enhance the student's educational experience while providing care for their physical and emotional well-being," said Amy Yokum, CEO of Ritchie Regional Health Center.

"Jefferson Elementary is very fortunate to be partnered with Ritchie Regional Health Center. Having access to healthcare services on campus can greatly benefit students, families, and staff alike. Not only does it provide convenience and accessibility, but it also promotes overall wellness within the school community. Partnerships like these are essential for ensuring the well-being of everyone involved in the educational environment," said Tina Lowers, Principal of Jefferson Elementary Center.

Ashley Stevens, MA, LPC, ALPS, joined RRHC as a behavioral health therapist in September 2022. Serving clients ages five and above, she rotates locations between Harrisville Elementary, Creed Collins Elementary, Smithville Elementary, Ritchie County Middle/High School, Belmont Elementary, and St. Marys Elementary, where she offers individual and family therapy services to children, adolescents, and adults.

In addition to being a counselor, she recently obtained her ‘Approved Licensed Professional Supervisor’ (ALPS) credential. This allows her to provide post-graduate degree supervision to candidates wishing to pursue professional licensure to become a licensed practical counselor. This is a tremendous accomplishment, and we couldn’t be prouder!

If you would like to schedule an appointment with Ashley, please call 304-643-4005.

🚍 🍎👨‍⚕️ School-Based Health Center Awareness Month is the perfect time to spotlight our 6 school-based health centers (SBHCs)! We proudly serve schools in Doddridge, Ritchie, Pleasants, and Wood Counties, as well as the surrounding communities.

Why are SBHCs so awesome?! Here are a few of our top reasons:
🔐Accessibility: They bring healthcare directly to students, eliminating transportation barriers and making getting the care they need easier. Even though they are located on school grounds, they are open to the public.

✅Convenience: Appointments fit into busy school/work schedules, minimizing disruption to learning and allowing children to be seen without parents having to miss work.

💰Affordability: Like all RRHC locations, our SBHCs accept all insurance plans, including Medicaid, and offer services on a Sliding Fee Scale for uninsured or underinsured individuals, making healthcare accessible regardless of income or insurance status.

💯Holistic Care: Our SBHCs provide comprehensive care, including check-ups, immunizations, counseling, and dental services*.

📈Improved Outcomes: Studies show SBHCs lead to better health outcomes, including higher immunization rates, increased access to mental health care, and improved academic performance.

🤝Teamwork: SBHCs collaborate with schools, families, and communities to create a supportive environment for student health.

Locate a Ritchie Regional SBHC near you.

Did you know February is National Heart Health Month? It's a time to focus on one of the most vital organs in our bodies: our hearts! Whether you're at peak fitness or looking to make some healthy changes, this month is the perfect excuse to show your heart some love.

In this blog, we'll explore some fun and informative ways to celebrate Heart Health Month, from simple lifestyle tweaks to community events. So, grab your red attire (because February 2nd is National Wear Red Day!), and let's dive in!

Why is Heart Health Important?
Heart disease is the leading cause of death in both men and women, claiming millions of lives each year. But the good news is that most heart disease is preventable through healthy lifestyle choices. By taking charge of your heart health, you're not just adding years to your life, you're adding life to your years!

Small Steps, Big Impact:
Making small changes in your daily routine can have a significant impact on your heart health. Here are some easy tips to get started:
  • Move your body! Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise most days of the week. Even small bursts of activity throughout the day can add up.
  • Fuel your body right. Choose a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Limit processed foods, sugary drinks, and unhealthy fats.
  • Don't forget the Zzz's! Aim for 7-8 hours of quality sleep each night.
  • Manage stress. Find healthy ways to manage stress, such as yoga, meditation, or spending time in nature.
  • Know your numbers.  Get regular checkups with your doctor and monitor your blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar levels.

Get Involved in Your Community:
Heart Health Month isn't just about personal choices. It's also about raising awareness and supporting organizations working to prevent and combat heart disease. Here are some ways to get involved:
  • Participate in local events: Walkathons, fitness challenges, and health fairs are great ways to get active and learn more about heart health.
  • Volunteer your time: Donate your time to organizations that support heart health research, education, and advocacy.
  • Spread the word: Share information about heart health with your friends and family. Use the hashtag #WearRed and #HeartMonth on social media to join the conversation.
Remember: Every step you take towards a healthier lifestyle is a step towards a healthier heart. So, this February, let's all commit to making small changes that can have a big impact on our hearts and our lives. Together, we can create a future where everyone has the opportunity to live a long and healthy life!
