Prioritizing Men's Health: A Message from IHCWV for Men's Health Month
June is Men's Health Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about preventable health problems and encouraging early detection and treatment of diseases among men. At Integrated Health Centers of West Virginia (IHCWV), we believe this month serves as a crucial reminder for men in our communities to take a proactive approach to their well-being. For too long, societal norms have often discouraged men from openly discussing their health concerns or seeking regular medical attention. This can lead to delayed diagnoses, more advanced conditions, and ultimately, poorer health outcomes. This Men's Health Month, we want to emphasize two critical pillars of comprehensive men's health that are central to our philosophy at IHCWV: preventive care and behavioral health services. The Power of Preventive Care: Staying Ahead of the Curve Many of the most serious health issues affecting men, such as heart disease, certain cancers (prostate, colorectal), and diabetes, are often preventable or highly manageable with early intervention. Regular preventive care appointments are not just for when you feel sick; they are essential for understanding your baseline health, identifying potential risks, and catching problems before they become significant. At Integrated Health Centers of WV, our preventive care services for men include:
Nurturing the Mind: The Importance of Behavioral Health Services It's impossible to talk about comprehensive health without addressing mental and emotional well-being. Behavioral health, encompassing mental health and substance use disorders, plays a significant role in a man's overall health and can impact physical health in profound ways. Yet, men are often less likely to seek help for these issues due to stigma or a perception that it's a sign of weakness. At Integrated Health Centers of WV, we understand the unique challenges men face and offer confidential and supportive behavioral health services designed to meet their needs. These services can include:
Our Commitment to Men's Health in West Virginia At Integrated Health Centers of WV, our mission is to provide accessible, high-quality, integrated healthcare services to all members of our community. This Men's Health Month, we recommit ourselves to empowering men in West Virginia to prioritize their health, both physical and mental. We encourage all men to schedule their preventive care appointments and to reach out if they are struggling with any behavioral health concerns. Our compassionate and experienced team is here to support you every step of the way. And don't forget, we accept most insurance plans including Medicaid and Medicare, and offer the Sliding Fee Discount Program to qualifying uninsured or underinsured individuals. The Program allows us to offer discounted service rates to patients based on their household size and income level. Take charge of your health this Men's Health Month. Your well-being matters. Wishing you all a safe, healthy, and happy summer 😎 WEST UNION, W.Va. — Integrated Health Centers of West Virginia (IHCWV), formerly known as Ritchie Regional Health Center, has announced that it will discontinue its dental services at the end of May. Dr. Holly Haldeman-Collins’ last day with IHCWV, and the final day of dental operations, will be May 30, 2025.
Discontinuing dental services was a challenging decision for IHCWV Board of Directors, but it was made with the community's needs as the top priority. By allowing Wilson Martino Dental to lease IHCWV’s current dental office locations in Doddridge County, more robust dental services and extended hours of operation will be available. While the dental program concludes, IHCWV will continue offering Primary Care and Behavioral Health Services to the community without interruption. “We’ve been honored to serve your family’s dental needs over the years,” stated the IHCWV Administrative Office in a letter to patients. “We understand this transition may raise concerns, and we are committed to assisting our patients in continuing their dental care elsewhere.” Patients are encouraged to select a new dental provider as soon as possible to ensure a smooth transition and prevent a lapse in dental care. Possible Options:
Patients needing help locating new dental care providers or wishing to transfer their dental records are encouraged to contact IHCWV at 304-643-4005 during regular business hours. The health centers will retain dental records for a period of time and can forward them upon request with a signed authorization form. IHCWV’s Dental Authorization for Release of Information form may be completed securely online by visiting https://form.jotform.com/243425540140041. “Though our dental services are ending, our dedication to your health remains as strong as ever,” IHCWV officials said. “We are here to support you during this change and ensure continued access to care.” For more information or assistance, please contact the IHCWV Administrative Office at the number above. May. The arrival of warmer weather and blooming flowers often brings a sense of renewal. It's also a crucial time to turn our attention inward and nurture our minds, because May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Here at Integrated Health Centers of West Virginia (IHCWV), we believe that mental health is just as vital as physical health, and we're deeply committed to fostering well-being across our communities.
For too long, mental health has been a topic shrouded in stigma. Mental Health Awareness Month provides a powerful opportunity to break down these barriers, encourage open conversations, and remind everyone that seeking support is a sign of strength, not weakness. It’s a time to educate ourselves and others about mental health conditions, advocate for better access to care, and, most importantly, to show compassion and understanding to those who may be struggling. At IHCWV, we understand that mental health is an integral part of overall health. That’s why we’re proud to offer comprehensive behavioral health services designed to support families and individuals five years and older. Our dedicated team of compassionate behavioral health providers, including therapists, counselors, and other specialists, is here to provide a safe and supportive space for families and individuals facing a range of challenges, from anxiety and depression to trauma and substance use. We believe in a holistic approach, tailoring our services to meet each client's unique needs. As part of our commitment to accessible mental health support, we also facilitate free SMART Recovery classes. SMART Recovery (Self-Management and Recovery Training) is a science-based, self-empowering addiction recovery support group. These classes provide valuable tools and techniques for individuals seeking to manage addictive behaviors and offer support to friends and family of those in active addiction. This Mental Health Awareness Month, we encourage you to prioritize your mental well-being and reach out if you need support. Remember, you are not alone, and help is available. At IHCWV, we are here to walk alongside you on your journey to a healthier and happier life. If you or someone you know is struggling with their mental health, please don't hesitate to reach out to us by calling or texting 304-643-4005—your well-being matters. In crisis now? Health truly does begin @ IHCWV, and we are excited to welcome you to our new downtown healthcare home! Across the nation, including West Virginia, the opioid crisis continues to touch our lives in profound ways. Among the many challenges we face, fentanyl stands out as a particularly potent and dangerous substance. That's why April 29, 2025, National Fentanyl Awareness Day, holds such vital importance. This day isn't just another date on the calendar; it's a dedicated moment to remember those we've lost, to educate our communities about the dangers of fentanyl, and to empower individuals and families with the resources they need.
From Tragedy to Awareness National Fentanyl Awareness Day emerged from the heartbreaking experiences of families who have lost loved ones to fentanyl poisoning. Driven by a desire to prevent similar tragedies, these families came together to raise public awareness about the risks associated with fentanyl, often disguised in counterfeit pills or mixed with other substances. Their advocacy has been instrumental in bringing this critical issue to the forefront of national conversation. Why Fentanyl Demands Our Attention Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is significantly more potent than morphine. Even a tiny amount, equivalent to a few grains of salt, can be lethal. This extreme potency makes accidental overdose a significant risk, especially when individuals are unaware they are consuming fentanyl. It's crucial to understand that fentanyl can be found in illicit drugs like heroin, cocaine, and counterfeit pills that look like legitimate prescription medications. The Indispensable Role of Behavioral Health Services Addressing the fentanyl crisis requires a multifaceted approach, and behavioral health services are an absolutely essential component. Substance use disorder (SUD) is a complex condition that often requires professional support, and here at Integrated Health Centers of West Virginia (IHCWV), we understand the critical link between mental health and addiction. Behavioral health services can provide individuals struggling with SUD with:

If you or someone you know is struggling with substance use disorder, please reach out. You are not alone, and help is available. Harrisville, WV – Integrated Health Centers of West Virginia (IHCWV) is proud to announce its selection as a recipient of the West Virginia First Foundation’s (WVFF) inaugural Opportunity Grant.
The grant, totaling $81,276.41, will be used to support IHCWV Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics (NMT) Prevention Program for Justice-Impacted Youth in Region 3. The NMT is an approach that integrates core principles of neurodevelopment and traumatology that focuses on understanding a child's brain development and function. It provides a framework for assessing a child, identifying primary issues, recognizing key strengths, and applying evidence-based interventions to promote healing and growth. This project aligns with IHCWV’s mission to provide affordable, compassionate, excellent care close to home. “We are deeply grateful to the West Virginia First Foundation for believing in our vision and supporting our work,” said Jasen R. Nichols, Director of Behavioral Health. “This grant allows us to reduce substance use and recidivism among justice-impacted youth and those in the child protection system and improve their mental health and well-being through trauma-informed care. Together, we are making strides toward a healthier and more hopeful West Virginia.” Jonathan Board, Executive Director of the West Virginia First Foundation, praised the work of IHCWV: “Organizations like Integrated Health Centers of West Virginia are at the heart of our mission to empower communities and combat the effects of substance use disorder. Their dedication to creating positive change is inspiring, and we are honored to support their efforts through the Initial Opportunity Grant.” The WVFF Initial Opportunity Grant underscores the Foundation’s dedication to investing in organizations and initiatives that address the opioid epidemic and its far-reaching impacts across the state. IHCWV is honored to be part of this mission and is committed to using this funding to drive meaningful change. About West Virginia First Foundation: The West Virginia First Foundation (WVFF) is a nonprofit organization established to address the opioid crisis and its lasting impact across the state. Created under the terms of the West Virginia First Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), WVFF was designed to receive and distribute opioid settlement funds. Guided by the principles outlined in the MOU, the Foundation operates as a private 501(c)(3) entity to support prevention, treatment, recovery, and harm reduction efforts. Through strategic funding and community collaboration, WVFF is committed to creating sustainable solutions that improve the health and well-being of all West Virginians. For more information, visit wvfirst.org. About Integrated Health Centers of West Virginia: Integrated Health Centers of West Virginia (IHCWV) was established in 1994 in Ritchie County High School, as part of a pilot program for school-based health centers. Over the next 30 years, IHCWV expanded by opening eight additional campuses across Ritchie, Doddridge, Pleasants, and Wood Counties, providing primary care, behavioral health, and dental services. As a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), IHCWV is governed by a board made up of patients and community members. The health centers also offer a Sliding Fee Discount Program for eligible individuals who are uninsured or underinsured, ensuring that everyone receives quality healthcare regardless of their insurance status or ability to pay. We’re incredibly excited to announce a vital community event, and we hope you’ll join us in making it a resounding success. IHCWV is partnering with the American Red Cross to host our first-ever blood drive! We’ll be at The Harrisville Gym on April 21, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
Why is this important? Blood donations are crucial for saving lives. Hospitals rely on a steady supply of blood for surgeries, accident victims, cancer patients, and those with chronic illnesses. Every two seconds, someone in the United States needs blood. And right here in our own community, that need is just as real. What to Expect:
Who Can Donate? Generally, most healthy adults who are at least 17 years old (16 with parental consent in some states) and weigh at least 110 pounds can donate blood. The American Red Cross has specific eligibility requirements, which you can find on their website (redcrossblood.org) or by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS. Want to schedule a time to donate? While scheduling a time to donate isn't required, we highly encourage you to do so to ensure a more smooth and efficient process. To make an appointment, visit The Red Cross website. Why The Harrisville Gym? We chose The Harrisville Gym because it is a central location in Ritchie County, and offers ample space for our donors. We want this event to be as easy and accessible as possible for the community. Become a Hero! We believe that together, we can make a significant impact. By participating in this blood drive, you’ll be directly contributing to the health and well-being of our community and beyond. Please share this information with your friends, family, and neighbors. Let’s fill The Gym Harrisville with Heroes! As always, thank you for your support, and we look forward to seeing you on April 21! |
